1. The process by which foetal rh+ erythrocytes enter the circulation of an rh- mother during delivery, causing her to produce IgG antibodies, which can cross the placenta and destroy the erythrocytes of rh- foetuses in subsequent pregnancies. (12 Dec 1998)
