Medical Definition of Thioinosine

1. 9-beta-d-ribofuranosyl-9h-purine-6-thiol. Sulfhydryl analog of inosine that inhibits nucleoside transport across erythrocyte plasma membranes, and has immunosuppressive properties. It has been used similarly to mercaptopurine in the treatment of leukaemia. Pharmacological action: antimetabolites, antimetabolites, antineoplastic, immunosuppressive agents.
