Medical Definition of Tranquillising agent

1. A traditional grouping of drugs said to have a soothing or calming effect on mood, thought, or behaviour. Included here are the anti-anxiety agents (minor tranquillisers), antimanic agents, and the antipsychotic agents (major tranquillisers).
