1. A drug combination consisting of a dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor (trimethoprim) and a sulfonamide antibacterial drug (sulfamethoxazole). The drug combination is synergistic as the drugs interfere with two successive steps in the formation/utilization of folic acid by microorganisms. Used to treat many infectious diseases.
