Medical Definition of Valvula tricuspidalis

1. This heart valve, named for its three cusps (leaflets), divides the right atrium and the right ventricle. When the right atrium contracts blood flows through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. On closure, the tricuspid prohibits the backflow of blood into the right atrium. (19 Jan 1998)
