Medical Definition of Anoscopy

1. A diagnostic procedure where the anal mucosa and lower rectum can be directly visualised using an anoscope. Anoscopy is used to detect haemorrhoids, polyps, anal fissures and in the evaluation of anal bleeding of uncertain aetiology. (27 Sep 1997)
