Medical Definition of CapZ

1. Microfilament capping protein (32-36 kD) found in Dictyostelium and Acanthamoeba and that binds to the barbed ends of thin filaments in the Z disc of striated muscle. Widely distributed in vertebrate cells, though in nonmuscle cells is predominately in the nucleus. Identical to alpha actinin. Some isoforms may bind to the pointed ends of microfilaments.
