Medical Definition of Luteol

1. Any of several yellow accessory pigments which found in plant leaves, egg yolks and human blood plasma, these pigments are oxygenated derivatives of carotenes and are involved in photosynthesis, for example lutein, violaxanthin and neoxanthine. (11 May 1997)
