Medical Definition of Lysostaphin

1. A mixture of three different proteolytic enzymes, two of which lyse bacterial walls. It is obtained from staphylococcus staphylolyticus (s. Epidermidis). Lysostaphin is very antigenic, but has been used in animals and topically in man against certain infections. Pharmacological action: antibiotics, peptide, anti-infective agents, local.
