Medical Definition of Clot-dissolving medications

1. Agents such as plasminogen-activator (t-PA) and streptokinase that are effective in dissolving clots and re-opening arteries. Used, for example, in the treatment of heart attacks. Also called thrombolytic agents. (12 Dec 1998)
