Medical Definition of Hemopexin

1. Single chain haem binding plasma _1 glycoprotein (57 kD) unlike haptoglobin does not bind haemoglobin. Present at around 1mg/ml in plasma. Responsible for transporting haem groups to the liver for breakdown. Structurally related to vitronectin and some collagenases.
